Schoolgirl’s ‘full-time stalker’ thrashed by public

A 26-year-old man was thrashed by members of the public for stalking a teenage neighbour and luring her with a mobile phone, police said.

Naveen, an unemployed youth, had been allegedly stalking the class 9 student for the past few days. Around 9 am on Monday, he followed her on her way to school at Laggere in northern Bengaluru and offered her a smartphone. She turned it down and kept walking. Naveen then forcibly stopped her and misbehaved with her. Passersby noticed this and caught him before calling the police.

The jurisdictional Nandini Layout police said Naveen would follow the girl whenever she stepped out of the house. She complained to her parents but they ignored it. Police didn’t arrest Naveen as the girl’s mother refused to file a complaint, saying he is their neighbour.

Police let him off with a warning. Naveen previously worked at a garage but quit the job and started stalking the girl all the time.
