Jailed for wife’s murder, man escapes to kill 2nd wife

Shankar was convicted and sentenced for life for murdering his wife. In a bizarre turn of events, after serving 11 years behind the bars, he escaped and returned to kill his second wife.

He brought her to a lodge in Majestic, went out shopping with her and bought her all she wanted. Shankar then murdered her slitting her throat. He is on the run.

Deceased Renuka (31), is a native of Hassan and the accused husband, Shankar (41) is from Kolar. Renuka had married Shankar after the death of her husband.

Upparpet police have formed a team to nab him.

According to a senior police officer, accused Shankar married Renuka while he was out on parole. After he escaped on February 16, he met his wife Renuka in the afternoon.

The couple stayed at a lodge in Majestic. On February 18, around 11 am, they went shopping and returned to the lodge. The same evening, Shankar left the lodge again, but never returned thereafter.

On February 19, around 8 pm, the sweeper at the lodge sensed the foul smell emanating from the room where the couple were staying. After repeated knocks, there was no response. The staff were suspicious and opened the room using a duplicate key to find Renuka lying in pool of blood, her throat slit.

They immediately alerted the Upparpet police, who rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

Sentenced to life

In 2008, Shankar killed his first wife Mala, while in Kamakshipalya. After a detailed hearing, in 2011, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was then lodged at the Parappana Agrahara central prison for 11 years. Recently, on February 4, for good conduct, Shankar was shifted to the Victoria Hospital as a caretaker for patients from prison.

Shankar managed to escape from the hospital on February 16. Later, he summoned Renuka to Majestic and booked a lodged there.

Prison officials searched for Shankar everywhere. Further on, the next day, a man missing complaint was filed at VV Puram police station. The police are now trying to ascertain why Shankar killed his second wife.
