Silent protest to press for ban on plastic

Speaking on the occasion Vanitha Ashok, the first Reebok-certified physical trainer, compared the protest to a battle, which she felt should be fought by people with passion.

Film actress Sharmila Mandre emphasised that people should go to the market carrying cotton or jute bags instead of carrying plastic carry bags. She appealed to the younger generation to set themselves as role models by giving up the use of non-degradable plastic.

The activists marched towards the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) head office and submitted a memorandum to Palike Commissioner Bharatlal Meena seeking a ban on non-degradable plastic as it poses enormous threat to the environment.  The activists later claimed that the commissioner will have to make a  request to the BBMP council to bring a ban on the use of plastic.
