Kalasipalya police said the victim was staying in the college hostel near Vinoba Nagar. On the ill-fated day, Mohsin took permission from the warden and went out to have food.
While returning, a middle-aged man threatened him to hand over the bag which he was carrying and the wallet. When Mohsin was trying to take out his wallet, the culprit attacked him with a sickle. Mohsin collapsed on the ground with severe head injury. The culprit fled the place snatching Mohsin’s bag and wallet. Passersby shifted the profusely bleeding Mohsin to hospital.
Soon after the incident, the top cop summoned the jurisdictional DCP to visit the hospital and take stock of the situation. Immediately, teams were formed to nab the culprit.
However, police believe that the assailant may be a resident of the nearby slum, and might have committed the crime while inebriated.
