JOIN USIf you love poetry and have a philosophical state of mind, your rides on Namma Metro are set to get rewarding. The public transporter will soon play short poems and display philosophical messages as you take the ride.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which currently runs philosophical messages in English on LED screens besides playing them on the loudspeaker, is going to launch poetical recitations.
While many passengers have praised the initiative and called it refreshing, others found it amusing. The philosophical messages are mostly recited or displayed at short intervals during the evening hours when people need relaxation.
Romita L, a passenger, recalled the first time she heard and saw such a message — ‘Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it’. “I was surprised. I looked around and saw other passengers showing the same reaction. We even laughed. But some of my friends liked it,” she said.
The BMRCL plans to start the philosophical messages in Kannada, besides launching poetical recitations in English and Kannada.
The larger media space on metro trains, however, continues to be occupied by short messages like ‘Beware of pickpockets in the train and station’, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Clean and Green Bengaluru, information about the metro smart card, details of the upcoming metro station and videos of popular tourist destinations like Jog Falls, Hampi, Belur, Halebid and the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
BMRCL managing director Mahendra Jain said the initiative was launched to introduce variety and break the monotony of displaying repetitive messages. “We are working on putting up some English poetry and its Kannada translations,” he said.
In the coming days, commuters can look forward to reading the ‘Thought of the Day’ and other useful messages.
