Last Updated 18 August 2018, 19:33 IST

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is running three special buses to rescue Kannadigas stranded in central Kerala. It has also set up Quick Response Squads to provide transport services to travellers stranded in Kodagu and other Malnad districts.

The three multi-axle club class air-conditioned buses are expected to ferry at least 150 people from Thrissur and Palakkad districts to Bengaluru. The KSRTC has taken the action on an SOS and will not charge the travellers.

The Quick Response Squads will rescue tourists and other people stranded in the middle of forests and mountainous terrains in Malnad districts. Each squad has two buses, two drivers and two conductors assisting the rescue and relief operations.

The KSRTC has also waived the luggage charge for relief materials. Besides, it will not charge any passenger if the scheduled services are operated on a circuitous route exceeding 77 km.

A round-the-clock control room at the KSRTC central office is looking into reports of difficulties in operating buses in the rain-ravaged areas. Call 7760990100 and 7760990560 for details.
