A 19-year-old engineering student of a private college committed suicide by hanging at his hostel room in Hennur, east Bengaluru, on Monday night.
The deceased Hari Swaraj, a native of Kammadam Kavu in Kerala, was doing his first year at the Vijaya Vittala College near Doddagubbi, the police said.
According to the police, Swaraj’s seniors had called him for a birthday party at the adjacent room but he chose to stay back telling them he was not well. Swaraj then hanged himself around midnight. Around 2.30 am, his roommate knocked on the door but got no response. His friends then broke open the door and found him hanging. The college authorities alerted the Kothanur police who shifted Swaraj’s body to Ambedkar Hospital for postmortem. The police said Swaraj left a suicide note stating that he was responsible for his death.
