Following concerns over a large number of people across the state and the city getting infected with swine flu (H1N1), the government on Sunday stepped in and instructed officials to take precautionary measures.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, who also holds the portfolio of Bengaluru Development, held a meeting with mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun and officials of the health department and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Sunday.

According to Parameshwara, from January 2018, 456 positive cases of H1N1 were reported of the 4,902 patients examined across the state.

He directed the officials to issue guidelines to all primary health centres (PHC), district and taluk hospitals to tackle the disease.

Speaking to the media, Parameshwara said: “If any kind of fever or the symptoms related to the swine flu is noticed, the patients should visit hospitals and get treated soon.”

“Every year H1N1 cases have been reported. In 2015, 94 people died because of the disease. After taking precautionary measures the cases of death have come down. However, this year the H1N1 cases are on the rise. But there is no need to panic. The citizen should take precautionary measures, and if any infection is found they should immediately go for a blood test,” he suggested. He also promised to start a designated lab to screen the H1N1 virus in North Karnataka.

Two people have died due to H1N1 in the BBMP limits so far. He also directed the BBMP officials to take precautionary measures.
