JOIN USThe Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, under the new Commissioner Rajneesh Goel, has released the list of 20 major property tax defaulters, who owe to the tune of Rs 16.58 crore to the civic agency.
While the Palike had targeted lower and middle class to collect property tax, it was alleged that it ignored bigwigs who enjoyed political clout. Top among the major defaulters are Big Bazaar at Malleswaram.
It owes Rs 3.34 crore followed by D Manikchand of Kids Kemp (Rs 2.47 cr), Cessna Garden Business Park (Rs 1.87 cr), Prestige Garden (Rs 1.23 cr) and Vaidehi Hospital (Rs 1.12 cr).
The BBMP sources said the estimated recovery amount could be undervalued as the property owners would not have given the actual size of the properties.
Hence the Palike may have to carry out the same to verify the details given by the owners of the properties.
