The HSR Layout police have booked four security guards of Purva Fairmont apartment in the area for killing a five-month-old pup on July 1.

An FIR has been filed following a complaint registered by the residents of the area over the death of the pup.

Amar and three other security guards caught a pup entering the apartment complex to find cover from the rain. They put the pup in a gunny bag and tortured the animal with sticks and stones till it died. The whole action was captured on the apartment’s CCTV camera. Eyewitnesses have given a statement to the police about the cruel act. The residents relentlessly pursued the complaint and an FIR was filed on Friday.

The police inspector said they booked the four security guards under Sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code (mischief by killing or maiming animal). They could earn a possible two-year prison term — for either of those offences — or could be fined. He added that they could also get both a jail term and fine.

Highlighting the intensity of the punishment, the officer said the men have also been booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
