'Indira canteen food test politically motivated'

Last Updated 20 March 2019, 02:11 IST

Giving a political twist to Indira canteen food quality test, mayor rejected allegations of BJP corporator Umesh Shetty and termed the tests as politically motivated.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun said: “Per day more than three lakh people have food in all the Indira canteens and we have not got any complaints about the food quality from the customers. The BJP corporator's allegation is politically motivated during the election time.”

“Umesh Shetty has taken the food sample in a tiffin box. This is not the way to take the sample to a lab for the test. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike health officials are directed to test canteen food in the FSSAI approved National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories,” the mayor added.

The civic body has decided to collect the food samples from the Indira canteen kitchens every month and send it for testing. It will also display the test report in all the canteens.
