Why punish us, Ola drivers ask state govt

The transport department’s decision to suspend Ola cabs’ licence has raised questions over the livelihood of its drivers, who on Saturday condemned the move on social media. “If the cabs are stopped for six months, how can we repay loans and pay for our children’s schooling?” drivers asked in the videos they posted on social media.

Shivakumar C, a driver, said: “I don’t see anything wrong in the government punishing the Ola company. But what will be the fate of drivers like us who have borrowed to buy cars and autos? How do we maintain our families and repay loans?”

Several drivers and commuters using Ola cabs began a social media campaign with the hashtag #JDSJawabDo.

A tweet said: “Employees with several IT-BT companies are dependent on Ola cabs and sudden decision to suspend the licence would affect them.”
