Two friends driving to Nandi Hills on a Sunday excursion died after their car hit a concrete mixer truck stuck in the middle of Ballari Road on the northern outskirts of Bengaluru.

Rakesh Kumar, 28, from Jharkhand, and Nitin Kumar, 29, from Madhya Pradesh, were travelling by a Maruti Suzuki Baleno when the accident occurred around 4.30 am. The truck had broken down and was parked in the middle of the road. Its driver had neither switched on the parking light nor did he put up any sign to indicate the truck had broken down.

Rakesh, who was driving the sedan, could not notice the stationary truck and rear-ended it. The crash was so powerful that the car got sandwiched under the truck, killing both the men.

A senior police officer said the truck driver fled the spot soon after the accident.

The jurisdictional Devanahalli traffic police rushed to the spot, took the bodies to Aakash Hospital and informed the victim’s families.

They have seized the truck and are hunting for the driver.

Rakesh was working an accountant at a private firm while Nitin was employed at a restaurant near Mathikere. Both the men had moved to Bengaluru five years ago for work. Their families are expected to arrive in the city on Monday. The bodies will be handed over to them after the post-mortem.
