Web app fails to show excess property tax paid

Property taxpayers who had paid in excess last year are feeling cheated as the BBMP’s ‘upgraded’ web-based application is not reflecting the arrears this year.

It is feared that if the BBMP fails to address this lacuna in its application by the year end, the number may swell. In April this year, BBMP had effected a 20% hike in property tax along with a change in taxation zones. The total increase in tax ranged between 70% and 110%. It led to a public outcry, compelling BBMP to suspend the tax-zones and withdraw the hike. There were people who preferred paying the tax to avail Palike’s early-bird offer of 5% concession. As BBMP withdrew the hike, it assured the ‘early birds’ that the excess will be adjusted next year.

The application is not showing last year’s arrears, let alone the excess paid this year.
