Following the accidental death of a man, his wife and mother hanged themselves before his body in Yeshwantpur's Muthyala Nagar. Their decomposed bodies were recovered on Saturday.
Sheeshpani (44) had died falling off a chair, prompting wife Usha Nandini (42) and mother Sudha Lakshmi (68) to hang before the body four days ago.
The family hailed from Andhra Pradesh and migrated to the city several years ago. All the three were staying together and ran a tailoring shop near SBM Colony in JP Park at Yeshwantpur. The couple had no children.
A senior police officer said the incident came to light on Saturday night when the house owner Naveen Kumar found foul odour emanating from the house. The police later found the decomposed bodies of a man and two women at the house.
Initial probe revealed that Sheeshpani suffered from an illness and had swelling in his arms and legs. He fell off a chair and died. His wife and mother did not inform their relatives. Instead, they locked the house and hanged themselves. The police did not find a suicide note in the house.
Nandini's cousin Suresh Babu told police that the couple were in a financial crisis and were therefore unable to provide adequate treatment for Sheeshpani's ailment.
The police shifted the bodies to MS Ramaiah Hospital.
