A woman was cheated by her Facebook contact who tricked her into parting with Rs 7.50 lakh after promising her a gift of Rs 27.77 lakh.

The A cyber-crime police registered an FIR against Williams Morgan in this regard.

The victim Mahalakshmi R, resident of Kumaraswamy Layout in her complaint stated that she came into contact with Morgan on Facebook and after a few days, he took her phone number and the two started exchanging WhatsApp messages.

Morgan told her that he had sent her 30,000 Pounds Sterling (Rs 27.77 lakh) in a gift pack. On March 26, she received a call from a woman who identified herself as Shweta from the Delhi customs department.

She told Mahalakshmi that she had received a gift from Morgan.

Shweta told Mahalakshmi that to receive the gift, she had to pay Rs 7.50 lakh and gave her a Central Bank of India account number. She told Mahalakshmi that the gift would be sent to her once she deposited the money.

The victim deposited the money and waited for the gift. She, however, did not receive any gift. When she tried contacting Morgan, his mobile was switched off. It was then that she realised that she was duped and filed a complaint, the police said.
