Woman killed, 5 hurt in car crash

A 24-year-old woman was killed and five injured when their speeding car hit a divider and crashed into the wall of the ASC Centre before toppling in the wee hours of Saturday.

The deceased was Debankshi, a BCom student and a native of Gujarat. The injured are Debankshi’s sister Bhoomitha (21), her friend Amisha Patel (21), who is grievously injured, B S Aditya Adiga (20) and Raghunandan (20).

Shanshank Chauhan was driving the car under the influence of alcohol, police said. Chauhan, Aditya and Raghunandan are engineering students while Debankshi and her sister Bhoomitha had come from Gujarat to meet the latter’s childhood friend Amisha Patel and others.

The group planned to go to Tipsy Bull pub on 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar. After partying till 1 am, Shashank was dropping everyone at Koramangala. Shashank lost control of the car, hit the divider and then crashed into the ASC Centre wall. Debankshi, who sat in front, died on the spot.

The Halasuru traffic police who were checking for drunk driving, rushed to the spot and called for an ambulance. All the injured were shifted to Manipal Hospitals where Debankshi was declared brought dead.

Police learnt Shashank’s blood alcohol level was 54 mg/DL. They booked Shashank for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
