A young couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves in southern Bengaluru as the woman's family opposed their relationship. The couple was distantly related.

Sri Hari, 24, a native of Srinivaspur, Kolar district, and Nisarga, 18, a PUC student from Malleswaram, were found dead in the former's rented house near Sarakki Signal in Kumaraswamy Layout on Monday night, a senior police officer said.

Police have found a death note which reportedly states that the couple was taking the extreme step as their parents opposed their relationship.

Hari had lost his father a few years ago and was living with his mother in Kumaraswamy Layout. He fell in love with Nisarga, a distant relative of his, about four years ago.

Nisarga's parents learnt about the relationship six months ago and warned her against taking it forward. Hari's family asked Nisarga’s parents to accept the relationship but they didn't budge.

On Monday, Hari called Nisarga to his home as his mother had been away. Once she arrived, he told her their relationship had no future as her family would never accept it and that it was better to commit suicide.

Around 10.40 pm, the landlord, Ramu, peeped through the window and saw the couple hanging from the ceiling. He called the Kumaraswamy Layout police.
