This 25-year-old seemed to be desperately seeking death. But death kept eluding him again and again. But after making three futile and gruesome attempts to commit suicide, the youngster finally ended his pain and life.

Choosing to end his life at the feet of the Lord, he died by hanging himself from the ceiling of the church in his fourth attempt.

The mysterious death of the unidentified youngster late Friday night has left the VV Puram police baffled. According to the police, the tragic suicide may have happened on October 18 night but came to light on Friday. According to the police, a stranger sneaked into the St Luke’s Church premises on Pampa Mahakavi Road in Chamarajpet on Thursday night.

“The church shares its boundary with the Fort High School grounds and Sanskrit University. He may have sneaked in by climbing a tree from another side,” Dayal, a member of the church told DH.

According to the police, the youngster entered the second floor of the community hall adjacent to the church and tried to hang himself using a rope pulled out from a jute mat. “The rope snapped and he may have fallen on the window panes and glass table. As the lift installation work is under progress, several construction materials were lying around,” the police said.

Failing in his first attempt, the youngster may have stabbed himself in the stomach using glass splinters. “He probably gave up, unable to bear the pain but remained bleeding profusely on the terrace. He scrawled a Malayalam word in blood on the floor. Later, a Keralite informed that the word read ‘Lata’, in Malayalam," a police officer explained.

Unable to kill himself, the youngster climbed on to the top of the church and loitered around for over two hours, where he slipped and fell on the clay tiles. “On the terrace too he appears to have stabbed himself again using pieces of tiles, which had blood stains. It can be assumed that he may have tried to end his life multiple times but could not. The terrace and community hall floor were soaked with blood and had his footmarks,” the VV Puram police said.

When nothing worked, the youngster finally used his shirt to hang himself.

His body was shifted to the mortuary of Victoria Hospital. “We have circulated his photograph but have got no clues about his identity. We have registered a case of unnatural death,” said the police official.
