Thumbs down for frozen Freida

GETTING FLAK: Freida PintoIt’s her first release since Slumdog Millionaire, which catapulted her to international stardom, and Freida Pinto is receiving flak from all the critics worldwide.

Why, you may ask? Well, the sultry beauty, who plays an important role in Miral, seems to have the West taking some serious note of her lack of acting skills.

The critics  seem to have woken up to her ice cold expressions.

While some critics and film writers have given the film mixed reviews, they seem to be pretty unsparing when it comes to Freida, who incidentally is in India  at the moment.
Wise move by the actress, say critics, considering the backlash  that seems to be in store.

Not so ‘silent’ anymore

Deepika Padukone is one of the busiest actresses in the tinsel town with many interesting projects in her kitty.

Sometime ago, it was reported that Deepika Padukone told film-maker Anurag Basu that she would sign his next film Silence, produced by UTV only if she is paid on par with Priyanka Chopra, who plays a pivotal role in the film.

But the truth of the matter is that the actress has walked out of Silence.

Explaining the events that took place and led Deepika to change her mind on Silence, a friend of the actress said, “Basu kept changing the script every now and then. Three meetings down the line, Deepika realised that not only her role but also the entire story of the film was being changed by Basu. Hence, she chose not to do the project. However, she was extremely professional about it. She told Basu that she was opting out.”

Deepika will soon be seen in Break Ke Baad opposite Imran Khan. Produced by Kunal Kohli and directed by newcomer Danish Aslam, Break Ke Baad is set to hit theatres on November 26.

She is also working in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se opposite
Abhishek Bachchan and Rohit Dhawan’s Desi Boyz with Akshay Kumar and John Abraham.

Auctioning his art

Doing his bit to contribute towards the flood relief in Pakistan, singing sensation Ali Zafar has auctioned  his art, the proceeds of which will go towards the rehabilitation of all the craftsmen affected by the recent floods in Pakistan. On September 20, The College of Art and Design organised a graphic painting exhibition at the Alhamra Art Galleries in Lahore, that featured over a hundred renowned artists. Joining this lot was Ali Zafar and his son.
The exhibition that aims to reconstruct homes and provide medical care to the victims will also travel to Karachi, Faisalabad and Islamabad.

Very few know that the actor, who made his Bollywood debut with Tere Bin Laden, started painting right from his college days. Talking about his first passion, Zafar says, “Once I got busy with music, I stopped painting. I picked up the brush after seven years when my father asked me to be a part of this exhibition.”

Philanthropy has always been a priority for the singer/actor as he soon plans to organise a fund raising concert in the hope of roping in Bollywood and international artists.

Curiosity surrounding first look

Grabbing eyeballs: Katrina Kaif in Tees Maar Khan. The first look of Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif is already grabbing eyeballs with its sleek looking poster –a silhouette of Akshay Kumar running away from what looks like a crime scene.

The film that promises to be the perfect amalgamation of action and comedy will see lead actor Akshay Kumar play a sleek and stylish conman.

Says a trade source, “The poster of Tees Maar Khan looks so international and sleek — on the lines of The Mask and other such entertainers.

And then again, it has two genres that no one other than Akshay Kumar can do justice to — action and comedy and with Farah as its director, Tees Maar Khan is a guaranteed blockbuster.”

The shoot of the film started during Holi and ended on Ganesh Chaturthi and Eid. The promo of the film will hit the screens around Diwali and the film releases on Christmas Eve.

So can we consider the film to be amongst the most auspicious? “There has been a
certain divinity that has stayed through the filming of the movie and hopefully, it should go on — with the kind of curiosity the film’s poster has generated, the film is bound of strike gold at the box office,” adds the source.

Directed by Farah Khan, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, Tees Maar Khan releases on December 24.

Dancing queen

Known for her nimble steps, undying grace, million-dollar smile and expressive eyes, dancing diva Madhuri Dixit may soon be seen on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. If all goes well, this will be her first TV appearance in a long time. Well, everyone knows that Aditya Chopra’s Aaja Nachle did precious little to refurbish Madhuri’s dancing diva  image. But the actress may be seen dancing in Jhalak Dikhala Jaa’s forthcoming season. She will make a special appearance on the show.

Madhuri happens to be one of the few Bollywood actresses to have been lauded by Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj personally. Television will surely be another crucial milestone in her journey as a dancer so far.

Feeling no fear

She is one actress with some guts. Popular film and television actress Roshni Chopra had an eerie experience of snakes entering her vanity van while she was shooting in a remote part of the Film City jungle for Aahat.

And as if this wasn’t enough, Roshni Chopra is now shooting for the same horror show, in a palace in Kolhapur, which is considered as one of the ten most haunted places in India.

Life is not being easy for the actress and this girl is really having a crazy time.
As if dealing with seen demons on Desi Girl wasn’t complicated enough, she now has to face unseen demons. She says that she has been having sleepless nights in Kolhapur as she keeps feeling the presence of someone or the other. But then, she is yet again enjoying shooting for this new format. Well, we pray she stays safe and hope to see her in an action reality show soon.
