Try to be economically stable, women told

 Presiding over the world women’s day celebration on Tuesday at Kaveri Kalakshethra, he said that when women are empowered, the nation will progress. He called upon the women to be organised and work for their progress.

Inaugurating the programme, MLC D G Medappa said that women lay the foundation for a healthy society. Women must become empowered and must come forth to rule the nation. “Women must take opportunity to show their skills and capabilities and come forth in the society,” he said.

Zill Panchayat Incharge President S N Rajarao, Madikeri Taluk Panchayat President Subhashini among others were present.

On the occasion, people from various walks of life were felicitated for their contribution for the development of the society. District Kannada Sahithya Parishat President T P Ramesh, Department of Agriculture Joint Director K R Krishnaiah were felicitated. Kitur Rani Chennamma Awardee Dr Vidya Muralidhar and Vijaya Vishnu Bhat were felicitated.
Palur Mahalingeshwara Stree Shakthi Group and Ponnampete Nokiya Grama Prathishta Stree Shakti Group, Somwarpete Bilugunda Shree Durga Stree Shakti Groups were honoured.

Best Anganwadi worker award 2007-08 was given to Geetha from Galibeedu. Gynaecologist Dr Rajeshwari gave a talk on ‘Health problems of women and solutions’, Dr Naveen Kumar spoke on ‘Health problems in children and solution’ and female foeticide’ and Dr Jnanamani spoke on ‘Aids-modes of transmission and precautions’.
