Oldest litigant for settlement

“I do not want this issue to linger on forever....it is good that the apex court has dismissed the petition seeking deferment”, Ansari told Deccan Herald from Ayodhya.

He said that he was expecting such a decision from the highest court of the country and made it clear that he did not wish to go in appeal to the supreme court in the event of the verdict going against him.

Ansari appealed to both the Hindus and Muslims to maintain peace and harmony. “The victor must not celebrate on the streets”, he added.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has also welcomed the Supreme Court order dismissing Ramesh Chandra Tripathi’s petition seeking deferment of the verdict.

VHP international president Ashok Singhal said that the apex court order had paved the way for a verdict in the matter after 60 years. He, however, demanded that the Parliament should enact a legislation for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
