All precautionary steps taken, says Udupi DC

Ban orders under Section 144 will be in force till October 2

Addressing a peace committee meeting here on Wednesday, she said that Sectoral Magistrates have been appointed in each police station to take immediate action following any untoward incidents. Besides, Section 144 will come into affect from 6 am on Thursday.

The prohibitory orders will be in affect till midnight of October 2. Superintendent of Police Prawin Pawar said that as many as 60 mobile vehicles have been put across the district for continuous patrolling. The vehicles will have sound systems and 60 videographers to shoot every small attempt to disturb peace. As many as 800 police personnel have been deployed along with 251 home guards. About 17 check posts have been set up. About 247 picketing points have been set up, most of them cover religious institutions and other sensitive areas, he added.

He informed that about 41 cases have been booked under Section 107 CRPC since September 21 as a preventive measure. Two have been arrested for sending provocative SMSes. A special team is continuously monitoring the sending and forwarding of provocative SMSes, he added.

The meeting was attended by political and religious leaders. The copy of a memorandum based on the resolutions taken during the previous peace meeting was given to all the leaders who were present on the occasion. All party men and religious heads signed the memorandum as a symbol of their co-operation in maintaining peace.
