Gujarat seals borders

The state’s borders with neighbouring Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have been sealed with the border police and the Coast Guard maintaining round-the-clock vigil, a government spokesperson said.

State police, Rapid Action Force, home guards, state reserve police and other para-military forces have been deployed in major cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and other centres having past record of communal disturbances.

The Quick Response Teams of the state police are already on the streets in the sensitive areas, the spokesperson said.Meanwhile, advocates of the Ahmedabad metropolitan court, rural courts and other courts in the city decided to stay away from the courts on Thursday.

Companies of RAF, Border wing of Home Guards and SRP held flag march in six sensitive areas of Vadodara city, a police officer said. Leaves of all police officers and employees have been cancelled and those on leave have been asked to report on duty immediately. Videographers have been appointed in sensitive areas of major cities to record all events in case of any eventuality.
