The kidnappers set Kevin Deepak Pinto free after the inspector called him to enquire about his whereabouts.

As per the complaint filed by Pinto, he was kidnapped by one of his friends Rehman and two others under the pretext of finalising a deal of selling his old bike.

Pinto, who works at BCD Travels in Salarpuria Arcade was approached by his old friend Rehman and two others at around 11 am near his office on September 27. According to his complaint, he was taken to a house in Sultanpalya by Rehman and kept under house arrest till 2.30 pm. Pinto alleged that they had demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000.

The three had also tried to withdraw money from his account using his ATM card but failed, as there was no cash in the account, Pinto added. Pinto’s colleagues contacted his parents, as he had not come to office. After several attempts to reach Pinto over the phone, they approached Nagaraj, an inspector at Kormangala police station.

“On receiving the complaint I tried to contact Pinto over the phone. After several attempts, he received the call. I asked him to put the phone on loud speaker and introduced myself as inspector at Koramangala police station. It seems that all the three suspects were present when I introduced myself. Pinto was finally set free by 2.30 pm,” Nagaraj said.
