At a press briefing in the evening, Singh said elaborate security arrangements were made across the State. More than 1,300 video cameras were installed and about 2,000 mobile parties were engaged. Besides this, policemen at local level were in touch with the religious leaders of their areas to avoid any untoward incidents. However, the police had little to do as people remained calm and peaceful, which showed their maturity.

The DGP added that an additional three companies of CRPF and BSF were deployed in the State. Around 800 people were rounded up as a precautionary measure. He told reporters that many criminals at Mangalore, Mysore and Belgaum walked into the police station and surrendered themselves on Wednesday. They will remain in police custody till Saturday.

The Bandobast made on Thursday would remain in force for next 48 hours, said the DGP.
