Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance chairman P N Sadashiva said the budget got the approval on October 8, the day hectic political parleys were on to tackle dissidence in the ruling party.  The budget was sent to the government on August 28 for approval.

The lingering political uncertainty may cast a shadow on the realisation of grants by the civic body.

The Palike is expecting Rs 1,300 crore in the form of grants from the State government and another Rs 750 crore through Akrama Sakrama. The Governor is yet to give his assent for the scheme. Sadashiva said that the government has approved the budget and hence bound by its grants.

The Palike may also find it difficult to achieve the budget targets, given the delay in presenting the annual financial statement. It has only four months to implement development projects proposed.

The budgetary outlay stands at Rs 8,848 crore.

Leader of the Opposition in the Council M Nagaraj said the budget has been approved in great haste amid political chaos. He said it would be great achievement if the Palike succeeds in implementing at least 10 per cent of its budget proposals.
