CM to open KFDC office on Oct 19

  The renovated office will have fish processing units of latest technology worth Rs 1.5 crore, informed KFDC President Ramachandra Baikampady in a press meet.

The Indian Overseas bank has already granted loans worth Rs 1 lakh without surety to 150 fisherwomen who sell fish at the fish market in State Bank area. According to an agreement, Mangalore’s Vijaya Bank has agreed to grant loans of Rs 50,000 to more than 3,000 fisherwomen at a low interest rate of 3 per cent. This loan scheme will spread to Udupi and Uttar Kannada soon, he informed.

The air conditioned fish market in Dakshina Kannada, Puttur, Sullia and Bantwal will be established soon and the fish canteen worth Rs 1.8 crore in Bangalore’s Cubbon Park will start working from this month end, he said.

The air conditioned fish markets in Shimoga, Teerthahalli and Tumkur have already been established and will be launched soon, he added.

Matsyavahini bus service

To enhance easy transport of fish, the Matsyavahini bus service will commence from December in all the 9 ports between Mangalore to Karwar, informed Ramachandra and added that the KFDC branch has done immensely well and earned a huge profit comparing to other fisheries branches in the State.
