Facing challenges with ease

There is no denying that Vidya Balan is a director’s dream. The proof of this is the fact that most film-makers want to work with the actress, who according to them is a powerhouse performer.

After stepping out of her comfort zone and performing a special song for Santosh Sivan’s Malayalam venture Urumi, Vidya was offered an impromptu guest appearance in the film that had the director impressed to no end.

A five-page Malayalam dialogue was handed to Vidya just minutes before the scene and the star took up the challenge of learning her lines in the limited time frame only.

The result — Vidya wowed everyone with her flawless performance and dialogue
delivery.

Says a source, “Vidya’s guest appearance was a spot decision and she was handed the dialogues just ten minutes before the scene — she skipped lunch and sat to learn the lines and stunned everyone with her flawless dialogue delivery. In fact, she was so good that she awed everyone on the sets.”

Santosh Sivan now wants to work on a full-fledged film with Vidya, who in his opinion is one of the most intense actresses he has come across. “Santoshji has often said that Vidya’s eyes can convey a thousand words — and after making her do a guest appearance in Urumi, he is kicked about doing his next film with her,” adds the source.

Not lucky for first-timers

Action-packed: Aamir Khan and Asin in Ghajini. There is no doubt that the industry is ruled by the three Khans — Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.

These three Khans are the most successful actors of the Hindi film industry. But when it comes to pairing up with newcomers, their luck doesn’t quite rub on to the debut actresses.

Well, that doesn’t mean they have always been unlucky for wannabe stars as most of their films opposite new actresses have hit the bull’s eye.

For instance, films like Lagaan (Aamir and Gracy Singh), Ghajini (Aamir and Asin), Om Shanti Om (SRK and Deepika Padukone) and more recently, Dabangg (Salman and Sonakshi Sinha), have turned out to be the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema.
But it’s surely a matter of luck whether one would click after having worked opposite one of the three Khans.

While some of these new leading ladies, have proved their worth, there are a few who are still waiting for their ‘stars’ to shine.

‘Twinkle keeps me under control’

He might be an action star and a black belt holder, but at home, Akshay Kumar is just a wife-abiding husband and confesses that it is his better half Twinkle Khanna, who calls the shot.

While shooting an episode for Star Plus’ show MasterChef India, which went on air on October 16, the actor chatted with one of the contestants and her family members, where her husband revealed that his wife keeps him under control. To which
Akshay quickly replied, “Mujhe koi sharam nahi hai ye maante hue ki ghar mein meri biwi mujhe poore control mein rakhti hai (I don't shy away from admitting that my wife keeps me under control at home).”

Akshay also joked that he might hold a black belt in martial arts but in front of his wife, “meri saari belt uttar jaati hai (my belt loses its relevance).” Meanwhile, Akshay has got a new obsession. While shooting one of the special episodes in Udaipur, Akshay wore silver shoes and is now hooked on to them. “The actor has become a huge lover of silver shoes,” said a source.

Pulling a fast one

Actor Tusshar Kapoor recently found himself in a sticky situation thanks to a prank played by the team of Golmaal 3 on him.

Director Rohit Shetty, along with co-stars Ajay Devgan, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Khemu and popular host Cyrus Broacha, were part of this prank, that took place during a press conference. Tusshar was called to a popular hotel in Juhu where most of the “so-called journalists” were actors.

Says a source, “As the press conference began, everyone started asking Tusshar a lot of embarrassing questions on why he chose to play a role that could potentially offend the physically challenged. Though the team would often step in to answer on his behalf, some question or the other would keep getting thrown at him. He was at a complete loss for words.”

The actors then walked out of the press conference as part of their well-schemed plan.
“When all the actors decided to walk out, the people at the press conference began to surround Tusshar who was by then, almost on the verge of tears. The sight was just too amusing and that was when the prank was revealed to him,” the source adds.

Bringing back the golden era

Guru Sharma, the nephew of the legendary musical duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, will be re-launching the concept of live acoustic orchestra in his upcoming movie, Apna Rajya Sampurna Swarajya. The film is based on Shivaji, the warrior.

The song has been sung by 35 vocalists and the composer has used a 45-piece live acoustic orchestra for the recording.

Guru feels it is high time we revive the live orchestra and bring back the old world charm in modern music, as that is the music most people grew up with and remember till date. This song is written by Arun Pateker and composed by Guru himself.

Guru is also the producer for this movie and has been doing a lot of research on Shivaji. This movie is his dream project and he wants to make it an unforgettable experience for the audience. Rakesh S Dujgal has been providing financial support to the visionary producer for his dream project.

Gulshan Grover, Puneet Issar, Milind Gunaji and Arun Bali are a few actors finalised for the project. Talks are on with Amitabh Bachchan, who has been approached to play the role of Shivaji’s father. But the makers are still waiting for his answer.
