Satyam Raju influenced witness: CBI

Last Updated 19 October 2010, 18:36 IST

Appearing for the agency, Additional Solicitor General Hirenbhai Rawal said Raju’s bail may harm the chances of thousands of witnesses deposing against him.

When a bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Deepak Verma asked about the veracity of the statement, Rawal said the agency has the confessional letter of the witness. The CBI is challenging Raju’s bail order at the apex court saying it would be a serious impediment for the witnesses to depose against him in the court.

Rawal said the AP government has notified to set up the special court and appoint a judge in the rank of additional chief metropolitan magistrate  since February 25, 2010, to hear the case expeditiously.

The agency alleged that Raju was indulging in “forum hunting” in the Andra Pradesh High Court to secure bail. Rawal said his bail application should have been presented before the same judge who had earlier rejected a similar plea from him.
