IOB trains 49 biz correspondents

The 49 volunteers, each of them has been assigned a village having a population of more than 2,000, have been imparted training to operate smart cards, a bank release said today.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) conducted the training programme for the business correspondents smart card facility has been introduced in keeping with the Reserve Bank`s direcives to provide banking facilities in unbanked villages having more than 2000 people under its financial inclusion scheme.

The release said the account holders can operate their accounts at their doorsteps without visiting the banks. The business correspondent would monitor the smart card with the help of a hand-held terminal.

The villagers can remit or withdraw upto Rs 2000 a day and get statement of accounts for the last five transactions and current balance in their accounts.IOB Chief Regional Manager B.Natarajan, who inaugurated the training, referred to the highlights of the scheme of appointing the business correspondents as the bank was marching ahead in implementing various progressive schemes.
