Crooning star: Neha DhupiaDebuting as a singer

Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia, who recently recorded a song with singer Kailash Kher for her forthcoming comedy caper Phas Gaye Re Obama, is excited to make her debut in playback singing. “I am super excited about the song and for getting an opportunity to sing along with a celebrated artist like Kailash Kher. It’s not an everyday story for Bollywood actresses. I feel extremely lucky to be a part of this project. Hope everybody likes it,” Neha said.

Neha plays a cruel don called Munni Madam who hates men in the film. “At first, Neha
refused to sing. But after a couple of music sittings, she finally agreed to record. Surprisingly, she completed the recording in just one day which is commendable as she is not a
professional singer,” saidSubhash Kapoor, the director of the film. Releasing on November 26, the film also stars Rajat Kapoor, Manu Rishi Chadha, Sanjay Mishra, Sumit Nijhavan and Amole Gupte, among others.

All praise for each other

Not many know that the two have been friends for over 18 years. Rohit Shetty had assisted Kuku Kohli and Ajay’s father, Veeru Devgan on Phool Aur Kaante, Ajay’s debut film.

"I know Rohit since he was a rookie and I have seen him grow film after film,” says Ajay.
This jodi has become famous for its super hit Deepavali releases in the past few years like Golmaal Returns and All The Best. They continue the trend this year with the fun-filled Golmaal 3.

Ajay totally admires Rohit Shetty. The actor says, “Rohit is one of the best directors, who I have worked with in the recent times. Most directors are comfortable with more intimate cinema, but with Rohit, it is the opposite. He knows how to bring scale into his productions.

He has successfully carved a niche as a comic-action director and I feel he betters himself with every film. I really look forward to working with him.” Well, in the ‘one director one film age’, it sure feels good to know that some loyalties still remain intact.

The most powerful stars

Hollywood heart-throb Johnny Depp has topped the list of Hollywood’s most powerful movers and shakers, followed by pop’s leading star, Lady Gaga in a new power list.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor has come out on top of Entertainment Weekly’s just-
released Power List. Depp’s career has been a long, strange trip and ending up as the most powerful actor in Hollywood is the weirdest twist of all.

He is rarely followed the standard playbook, choosing roles as misfits over the usual romantic leads and action heroes,” the magazine explains before listing some of the actor’s impressive statistics, including a career box-office total of US$ 5.9 billion.

Meanwhile Gaga, who had occupied the seventh spot on Forbes magazine’s list of the ‘World's 100 Most Powerful Women’, has grabbed the second spot in the pecking order.

The Pokerface hitmaker has managed to amass a pretty impressive resume in a short time,
having sold 5.1 million albums in the US itself in a career spanning two years.

TV mogul Oprah Winfrey came in at number three while former American Idol judge
Simon Cowell occupied the fourth spot. Hollywood’s leading men Will Smith and Robert Downey Jr bagged the fifth and sixth spot respectively.

Academy-award winning actress Sandra Bullock who went through a much-publicised divorce this year, proved that her career is still going strong with a seventh spot.

Ellen DeGeneres, Leonardo DiCaprio and Eminem are the other three in the top ten.

Om Puri shines again

Bollywood veteran Om Puri is back as George Khan in the cross-cultural comedy West is West, which premiered at the London Film Festival. Puri, along with co-star Illa Arun walked the red carpet at the premiere of the sequel to the 1999 film East is East, which vividly charted the conflicts of a mixed-race

Pakistani-English family and went on to win a BAFTA for Outstanding British film. The film was shot mostly in Chandigarh and will be released in India in February.

“I am quite confident the film will be a success in India,” said Puri. Om Puri played the charismatic George Khan, determined to instill some discipline and cultural identity into his son Sajid, played by newcomer Aqib Khan.

The film sees Sajid, the youngest son played by Aqib Khan, introduced to the father’s first family in Pakistan. They head to the old country, where George’s older son Maneer is looking for a bride. Once there, relations do not go smoothly between George and his first wife Basheera (Ila Arun), even before his English second spouse Ella (Linda Bassett) turns up.

Leslee Udwin, the producer and Ayub Khan-Din, the writer are already looking ahead to the concluding part.

Confused: Shahid KapoorTorn between choices

Shahid Kapoor is in a huge dilemma. He has been offered to play a pivotal role in two international projects to be directed by two of the most recognised Indian female directors abroad — Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta. While most actors would rejoice at the thought, the problem that Shahid is facing is the fact that he can only pick one project. So the actor has to choose between Deepa Mehta’s Beeba Boyz or Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

Which of these two projects will he pick?

Not only do the dates for the two projects clash, the directors helming the two projects are ready to embark on a competitive journey as well. While Mira wants to cast Shahid in her screen adaptation of Mohsin Hamid’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Deepa wants to pair him against the Resident Evil hottie Milla Jovovich in her film titled Beeba Boyz about a Punjabi gangster.
