'People will not accept KSRTC city buses'

Last Updated 26 October 2010, 16:44 IST

Speaking to Deccan Herald, DKBOA Secretary Ajeej Parthipady said “private buses have a history of 75 years in DK and they have been providing good service even in the remote villages. Instead of starting local public transport services, let the KSRTC introduce buses in those remote areas where people still depend on jeeps, autorickshaws to commute. Public transport services needs to be improved in those nationalised routes where there are no proper bus services.”

“The transport system is ‘beautiful’ in Dakshina Kannada without KSRTC buses. The people of the coastal district will never accept KSRTC as city buses.” Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association former president Jayaram Sheka said the private buses have been providing good service to the people of the region. KSRTC buses should be introduced in those areas where private players have failed.

CBOA President Rajavarma Ballal said: “we have good bus services in undivided Dakshina K annada. Instead of providing service in those remote areas, why is the government involved in disturbing the private operators? If there was any shortcomings in the system, let the authorities call individual operators and ask them set right the lacunae in the system. Private bus owners have invested money in their business. The government has ample opprtunity to improve their service in villages where people still depend on auto, mini vans to commute.”
