In this regard, as many as 38 people who were deceived by the said broker met the Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh along with the members of Democratic Youth Federation of India on Wednesday and urged him to arrest the broker at the earliest.

The accused is Ibrahim Sharief, a resident of ‘Harmony’ apartments in Attavar.
Sharief had taken lakhs of rupees as deposit from each party looking for houses, promising them to find them suitable houses and even pay their rent too.

Believing that the arrangement will benefit them, many families had given Sharief the money but Sharief vanished with the money. He has neither paid the rent for the houses nor returned the deposit amount.

Victim speaks

Noor Basheer, one of the persons cheated by Sharief says that he had given Rs 3 lakh to Sharief for a house. “Initially Sharief had paid the rent on time but suddenly he stopped paying the rent. When I asked him about it, he said that he does not have the money to pay the rent right away,” said Basheer adding that Sharief had told that he would simply surrender himself if they go to the police and complain.

However, collecting all necessary documents from the complainants, Police Commissioner has promised to nab the culprit at the earliest.

DYFI District President Muneer Katipalla said that over the last 6 to 8 months, Sharief has accumulated Rs 3 to 5 crore and has gone absconding along with his family, thereby throwing 38 families into dire straits.

Town President B K Imthiaz, Pratha Raitha Sangha Secretary Yadhav Shetty, former corporator Abdul Aziz, Taluk Panchayat former member N E Mohommad and others were present.
