'Government to strengthen milk co-op society'

Small producers should become the members of milk producers co-op society

  The farmers and farm labourers should make use of the funds available under SGSY scheme, said Zilla Panchayat President V M Vijaya.

Speaking at a meet of Milk Producers Co-operative Society Presidents and Secretaries at Fort hall in Madikeri on Wednesday, he said there are ample opportunities for developing dairy farming in Kodagu and increasing the milk production. More and more farmers should become members of the milk co-operative societies.

More support has been given to the milk production and rearing of cows. Small farmers should become the members of Milk Producers Co-operative Societies to avail the facilities of milk production. Under MGNREGS, financial assistance is given for growing fodder to encourage dairy farming in the district. Milk producers Societies are also provided with cans and Rs 50,000 to those who do not own building.

ZP in-charge CEO S Y Basavarajappa said a survey will be conducted on BPL families in the district. All the families should provide complete details when enumerators visit home.

He said funds are available under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employmnt Generation Scheme. Zilla Panchayat Assistant Project Officer Shabeershah said Milk Producers Co-operative Societies should give emphasis to cleanliness in villages. Under Total Cleanliness Drive, BPL families are given Rs 3,000 for the construction of toilets, he informed.
