Police rescue kidnapped victims

The swift action of the police saw the main accused Shivu and two of his associates, Vinod and Rajesh arrested. Police said Umesh and his friend Shivanand were kidnapped from Umesh’s dance school around 2.30 am. Shivu was out on bail recently in a murder case last year.

Police said Umesh had apparently taken a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh from Shivu’s girlfriend Manjula a year ago to start his dance school, of which he had repaid Rs 70,000. However, Shivu started insisting that Umesh repay the entire amount and not just the remaining
Rs 80,000. “When Umesh did not agree to this, Shivu kidnapped him and his friend with the help of some friends,” DCP (North) H S Revanna said.

Umesh and his friend were then taken to Motimahal lodge in Majestic where Shivu forced him to call his brother Santhosh to arrange Rs 1.5 lakh as ransom for his release at 9.30 am.

Santhosh immediately approached the Mahalakshmi Layout police. “After receiving the complaint, a team of officers from both stations raided the lodge at around 10.30 am and secured the victims along with the kidnappers,” he said, adding that Umesh, who tried to escape, was beaten up by the kidnappers.

Two of the accused sustained minor injuries in the melee.
