Multi-faceted Diwali celebration at CIS

Last Updated 07 November 2010, 18:36 IST

Students of 34 nationalities at the Canadian International School, Yelahanka, celebrated Diwali in style with all its traditional fervour, jubilation and enthusiasm as they initiated a multi-faceted programme in the school premises on Friday.

Themed “Deep Jale”, the international school’s Diwali special programme included a fashion show, skit, dance, antakshari, religious programmes and a host of other cultural activities.
“We are very happy to celebrate Diwali with our students of diverse cultures. We hope this festival brightens each and  every student’s life and they shine bright wherever they go.

The climaxes are universal brotherhood and unity in diversity. Religion is not differential, it is a unifying cord and a reason for celebration,” Shweta Sastri, Executive Director, Canadian International School, said.

Diwali, celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil and light over darkness, gives an opportunity to people of different faiths and communities to come together and live in a spirit of communal harmony. Cultural activities help students appreciate the richness and diversity of our culture as well as enduring relevance of our age-old values of truth, tolerance and respect for all, she added.

CIS follows three internationally recognised curricula International Baccalaureate, International General Certificate of Secondary Education and Ontario and employs mostly foreign trained teachers.
