The campaign culminated at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in a grand event titled Be a Fan of Dignity 2010, which was put together by Special Olympics Bharat and Ramesh Dembla. The stadium was filled with enthusiastic kids who were excited to see the fashion show and watch mega star Akshay Kumar walking the ramp for the cause.

The event started with children from the Spastic Society of Karnataka performing a beautiful music recital. This was followed by an invocation song, which was sung by Special Olympian Bharat achiever Anubhav Gopal. The song received much applause after which a Kannada play was presented by children from Asha Sadan, showing the ignorance of the society when it comes to intellectually challenged people.

The children overcoming their problems and displaying their artistic talents was an eye-opener to all those were present. But there were more to come as a group of computer operators from CIMR, Trivandrum performed a flawlessly executed Kuchipudi dance which left everyone in awe.

This was followed by a glamourous fashion show by designer Ramesh Dembla who presented his collection, Nishtha, which meant dignity.

The models showcased garments in red, black and gold where each colour represented bravery, determination and pride respectively, perfectly capturing the essence of the evening.

The first part of the show was the royal collection of ghagras, where the models shimmered in exotic clothes, in gold and black. The Men in Black collection had male models showcasing Jodhpuris and kurtis, all of which had an exotic touch.

The final collection for the evening was the heavy saris and each of these saris looked beautiful.

But the high point of the evening was when 40 very excited special Olympian children walked the ramp with the models and took a bow on the ramp.

The decibel levels reached new heights as Akshay Kumar made an appearance and walked the ramp with two of the Olympian stars.

Akshay graciously took a bow and was showered with loud applause and flowers by ardent fans who crowded the ramp area to get a glimpse of the actor.

“I, Akshay Kumar ban the R-word from my vocabulary. Join me in pledging your support to the intellectually challenged,” he said.

This was followed by a small ceremony where he felicitated schools from each State which had collected the highest signatures for the campaign.
