Horticulture farms to pvt parties: Ex-MLA warns stir

Accuses State Govt of handing over 4,000 acres

Addressing media in the city, Shivanna who had been the Minister for Horticulture during the reign of Chief Minister S M Krishna, alleged that the government has decided to hand over 18 farms spread over 4,000 acres of land has been handed over to them for a  period of 30 months on contract basis.

Gradually, the government may handover all  the 413 farms spread over 16,000 acres, he fretted.

Shivanna claimed that he had rejected the similar proposal as a Minister, in the interest of the exchequer.

The annual revenue of ` 10 crore generated from these farms goes to the government, instead of Horticulture Department.

Taking this into consideration, the government itself could have continued with the maintenance.

Shivanna warned of launching intensified struggle in association with farmers and intellectuals.
