Verdasco in third round

Fifth-seeded Berdych registers straight-set win over Florent Serra

Spain's Verdasco struggled to keep up with 32-year-old Arnaud Clement before rallying to win the last 10 games and seal a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory.

Verdasco needs to reach the semifinals to have a chance of playing in London, and next faces French 12th seed Gael Monfils, who dispatched German qualifier Benjamin Becker 7-6, 6-4. Fifth seed Berdych made sure he remained in the hunt for a place at the O2 in London after dispatching French wildcard Florent Serra 6-3, 6-1 in just 47 minutes.

One player who will not be in London is Russia's world number 10 Mikhail Youzhny, who retired in his second-round match against Latvian Ernests Gulbis due to a bad back.
Former world number three David Nalbandian set up a meeting with Briton Andy Murray after beating Spain's Marcel Granollers.

The tenacious Argentine, who has slipped to 25th in the rankings after an injury-hit season, won 6-3, 6-1.  Gilles Simon also gave Forget food for thought after showing his fighting spirit. The former top-10 player recovered from a lacklustre start to beat unheralded Kazakh Andrey Golubev 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and set up a second-round match against fourth seed Robin Soderling.

Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick won in straight sets to march into the third round. Djokovic won 6-4, 6-3. He next faces American John Isner or Frenchman Michael Llodra. Eighth seed Roddick breezed past Finnish qualifier Jarkko Nieminen 6-1, 6-4 to set up a meeting with Latvian Ernests Gulbis. Marin Cilic came through a tough three-setter against Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Paes-Dlouhy in quarters

Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters after registering a tough three-set win over American pair of John Isner and Sam Querry, adds PTI.  The third seed Indo-Czech pair came from behind to beat unseeded rivals 6-7(3), 7-5, 10-6.

Yuki in main draw

Yuki Bhambri stunned top seed South African Fritz Wolmarans in straight sets to qualify for the main draw of the ATP Challenger tournament in Knoxville. The seventh-seeded Indian teenager beat 348th ranked Protea 6-4, 6-2 to grab one of the four main-draw spots at stake.
