Last Updated 11 November 2010, 12:20 IST

The Cabinet Committee on Accomodation (CCA) has decided to charge market rental for all houses where they have been staying beyond eight months which they are entitled to after demitting office.

"Those who are staying in government accommodation beyond eight months after demitting office, they have to either pay market rent or vacate the house," an official said.

Notices are being served by the concerned departments to all such occupants, the official said.

Government while replying to an RTI application had stated in July last year that 36 former ministers and MPs unauthorisedly occupying government accommodation and that their cases have been referred by the Urban Development Ministry to its litigation division.
