Karnataka requests Orissa to conduct carbon dating on skulls

Last Updated 11 November 2010, 15:07 IST

"The Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad has informed the Dharwad district administration that it has no facility to determine the period in which these skulls are buried.

Some skulls have therefore been sent to a laboratory in Orissa," Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain told reporters here.

On October 28, an expert team from University of Dharwad, which investigated the matter, said the skulls could have been of those who perished in an epidemic disease that had struck the village.

The team, in its report to Jain also suspected there was a possibility of the skulls being brought from a burial ground from those who practiced black magic to perform puja and later dumped in a place.

The report also ruled out the possibility of the skulls being that of soldiers who died in a war.
