According to the police, investigating officials have failed to trace Arun Borude, Senior Inspector at L T Marg Police station, for questioning. Responding to a query, Assistant Police Commissioner (Sakinaka) N T Sherkhane said, "Borude is absconding. We are trying to trace him."

According to police, the 15-year-old girl lodged a complaint at suburban Powai police station recently, alleging that she was raped by a few persons on different occasions, but did not mention their names in the FIR. The victim later delivered a baby girl. However, during the probe, the name of Borude, who is suspected to have had a role in the rape case, surfaced.

Borude's lawyer Vaibhav Bhagade said he would seek anticipatory bail for his client next week. "Borude is not well and I am awaiting instructions from him. We would approach a Sessions court seeking anticipatory bail," he said.

According to Powai police station, where the case was registered, a pimp Shanta Gaikwad (40) was arrested recently for allegedly providing minor girls for prostitution in Powai, where she was employed as domestic help.

The minor girl's mother learnt that Gaikwad had indulged her daughter into prostitution. She subsequently lodged a complaint at Powai police station after which Gaikwad was held, police said.

Later, the victim's mother learnt that her daughter was four-month pregnant and was not in a position to go for abortion, they said. The victim recently delivered a baby girl and the rape case was registered against the unidentified men, police said.

The girl has identified the flat where she was raped. The flat is not far from the place where the police officer stays with his family in the western suburbs. Borude's cellphone number was also found stored in Gaikwad's mobile, the source added.

Despite repeated attempts, Borude, who has reported sick, was unavailable for comment.
