SC declines relief to bank fraud accused

While refusing to grant any interim relief, a bench headed by Justice Dalveer Bhandari asked the CBI to give its reply to the petition filed by the accused, seeking direction to stay the execution of the red corner notice and arrest warrants.

The notices were issued in May this year against Suri Gunaranjan and Suri Prem Kumar, and the extradition proceedings were in the final stages. When the government counsel submitted that the accused had been residing in the US for the last six years, the court said: “No interim relief. You don’t deserve it keeping in view your conduct.’’

Counsel of the Suris pleaded that direction may be given to the authorities not to make any entry in their passports, which would make it impossible for them to return to the US as they were Green Card holders.
