Home team clinch two-wicket win

After taking a solid 70-run first innings lead against Gujarat, Saurashtra got bundled out for a mere 125 in their second innings opn Saturday, to set Gujarat a easy target of 196 for victory, here at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium.

And even though Ravindra Jadeja (5/59) made it really hard for Gujarat, the hosts managed to have the last laugh.

Earlier, resuming at an overnight score of 60 for two, with Bhushan Chauhan (22) and Shitanshu Kotak (1) at the crease, Saurashtra simply failed to capitalise on the advantage.

Both overnight batsmen got out immediately. While Chauhan added just 2 more runs to his Friday’s score, Kotak added only eight.

They kept losing wickets at regular intervals without any resistance from the batsmen, even as Gujarat bowlers Salil Yadav (4/44) and Siddharth Trivedi (3/32) dominated the proceedings.

Yadav and Trivedi did not allow the opposition batsmen to settle as the duo accounted for seven out of eight Saurashtra wickets that fell on the final day. Chasing a modest target, Gujarat had to work really hard against some quality bowling from Ravindra Jadeja, who finished with impressive figures of five for 59 in his second innings.
