Manipal University offers 286 courses this academic session

Briefing on the 2011-12 academic session, during the admission process which began on Monday, he said that some of the new courses beginning in the new academic session in the Manipal University are M Phil in Regenerative Medicine, Advanced PG Diploma in Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, BA Culinary Arts, MS dual degree from Lancaster University, UK and MS Dual Degree from Staffordshire University, UK.

Scholarships

He said that for the academic session 2011-12, the freeships and scholarships will be Rs 16.29 crore as against Rs 12.23 crore last year.  A total of 197 students benefited during 2010 admissions. This include 15 for medicine, 8 for dental, 2 for BPharm, 45 for BE and 127 BE AICTE.

AICTE scholarships means a waiver on tuition fees for economically backward, meritorious students to bachelor’s programmes in engineering, pharmacy and hotel management. The scheme is only for those students whose parents’ annual income is less than Rs 2.5 lakhs, he added.

Registrar Dr G K Prabhu said that in addition to the freeships and scholarships, this year onwards the university has introduced scholarships for research. Thirteen external students have been registered for Ph D and will be given a monthly scholarship of 16,000 in the first year, 17,000 per month in the second and 18,000 per month in the third year.

Prabhu also said that the university gave several other scholarships like; the Academy of General Education (AGE) scholarships, which entitles a 10 per cent waiver on tuition fee for students of schools run by AGE and also for Konkani speaking students.

Prospectus and forms are available at 200 selected State Bank of India branches and 115 branches of Syndicate Bank across the country.

Candidates can also visit www.manipal.edu and download the digital prospectus and application or apply online by paying the application fees through Credit Card or net banking or Demand Draft.

The University conducts an online entrance test at 29 centres across the country.
A centre in Port Blair has been opened this year, he added.
