Former bureaucrats protest innocence

Last Updated 18 November 2010, 18:56 IST

Former bureaucrats including ex economic affairs secretary CM Vasudev, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) ex member DPS Seth, former TRAI chairman Pradeep Baijal, former personal secretary to A Raja, R K Chandolia, all claimed innocence and dismissed allegations that they colluded with the corporate sector.

Vasudev claimed he was not working for the telecom sector while he was with Noesis Strategic Consulting Services, while former TRAI member Seth said he was merely an independent adviser on regulatory and technical issues and had no role in policy.
“I’m not with the firm (Noesis). I left it a year ago. I was asked to do development work while I was there and had nothing to do with the telecom sector. I have no knowledge of the companies with which they had contracts or no contracts,” he said.

Noesis is being investigated for lobbying with senior bureaucrats for grant of 2G spectrum.
Seth hit out at the media, saying that he found the coverage on the scam “incredulous”.
“The whole thing is incredulous. It shows how our major newspapers create headlines. I have nothing to do with any interaction with any national government. We had given recommendations for separating licence from spectrum and separately auctioning spectrum,” he said.

Baijal and Chandolia have also refuted claims that they had a role in the irregularities.
