Grains, greens for anganwadis

Last Updated 19 November 2010, 19:26 IST

At a departmental meeting on Friday, a decision was taken to start supplying materials for cooking food at the centres under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
However, this will not mean that the supply of packaged food will be stopped.

It will be reduced to six times a week from the existing 12. At present, foodgrains and other supplies are being routed through the 137 Mahila Production Centres (MSPC) at the taluk-level which had been established to provide the packaged foods. The anganwadi workers have demanded to procure the supply through women’s self help groups. A senior member of the State Anganwadi Union said that such a measure would be in compliance with the Supreme Court order, which banned contractors under ICDS programme.
