“If one went by the few cases booked by the team, one is forced to believe that there
was a nexus between the two,” he told newsmen.

He said there were complaints of supply of adulterated fertilisers and the officials have been directed to initiate action against the culprits. There was no need to table a separate budget for agriculture as the government has already provided Rs 984 crore for the current financial year. Earlier, only Rs 300 crore were earmarked for the agriculture sector,  he said.

It was proposed to provide training to farmers on agricultural activities under Agriculture Mission, in coordination with the lecturers and officials of Agriculture University, Agriculture experts and Agricultural researchers. Replying to a query, the Minister said there was no proposal before the government on ‘cloud seeding’ and the Cabinet scheduled on 6 July would discuss on further action to be initiated in this regard.  He expressed hope that rains would be good in the coming days as Malnad area has received low rain fall till now.

Ravindranath said there was no shortage of fertilisers in the State. If the Centre formed an Agricultural policy, the State government would also come up with its own policy, he added.
