Tagore chair in IGNOU

According to Vice Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai, the Chair will bring out various facets of the celebrate poet who brought home India's only Nobel Prize in literature.

"The Chair will not only enlighten the people about Tagore's life and poetry but also propagate his philosophy on education, community development, nationalism, and relations between various Indian languages," Pillai told Deccan Herald. Besides, the great poet's influence on litterateurs of various languages would be studied, he added.

"Tagore is credited for creating a synthesis of all languages. The IGNOU Tagore Chair will conduct seminars and workshops on his literary works and prepare modules of study in Indian literature to be used as textbooks in various universities," Pillai said.

Noted Kannada litterateur U R Ananthamurthy will be the first chairperson of the Tagore Chair which has been housed at the Kannada Bhavan, J C Road.

The Chair also will translate Tagore's works from Bengali to others languages.

Further, major literary works in Kannada will be translated into other languages and vice versa. Although the chair will focus on literary works in Kannada, it will also carry out works in other languages.
